So this week, while on assignment for Texas Live Magazine, I attended my first Texas county fair in Brenham. I grew up in a suburban area of Atlanta where most of my peers were not involved in raising livestock, however, where we are living now it is very common for the children to show their animals at the county fair. There are all sorts of things to do and see, including a petting zoo, carnival rides, daily concerts, and lots of shopping. And of course, there is an abundance of fried food and deserts readily available. I have been told that I did not get the full experience because I did not eat anything off of a stick and I did not eat a funnel cake. However, I promise, I have done all of that before. I should be covered.

My assignment was to take social snapshots of the people and the activity around the fair, and I took the opportunity to use my favorite new lens, the 50mm f/1.4 on some of the animals. All of these animals were competing and I have no clue what exactly makes one cow better than another or one turkey win over another, but I trust that the judges did, so I chose my subjects based on who seemed cleanest and who was looking at me at the time.

I very much enjoyed the experience, however, now I have been told I have to see a state fair for my Texas bucket list to be legitimate.

Have a great week!
