"I was hesitant about birth photography at first, but now I am delighted we had Ashley there and I can't recommend it highly enough. My son's birth was such a hectic, emotional time, and it was wonderful to be in the moment knowing she was capturing it all and we didn't have to think about taking pictures. I treasure the images and look back at them often. I am truly grateful to Ashley for capturing such an amazing time in our lives and I will be forever thankful! She's the best."

Amy Banks
Birth and Newborn

"I booked a birth session and it was the best decision I've ever made. Kathy rushed to the hospital in less than 15 minutes from when I called. I had my edited pictures back in a week."

Katee Sullivan

College Station Newborn Photography FAQ

How does a newborn portrait session work?

Most of my newborn sessions are done in-home for maximum comfort for mommy and baby. However, I do tell my families- Don't worry about a messy house. You will have a newborn. It's supposed to be messy! However, if you prefer, I do have a studio space, so the choice is yours.

Can my other children be in the newborn photos?

All family members are welcome to be a part of the newborn session. The baby is part of your growing family, so nobody is excluded.

Can you photograph my props and heirlooms?

Absolutely. Each newborn portrait session is custom designed to fit your style and preferences. If Grandma made baby a quilt, we can definitely include it in your session. I will do my best to incorporate pieces that are important to you and your family.

What else do I need to know?

Newborn photography is a very specialized task. At Fig-Mint Photography, we are incredibly concerned with your child's safety and have taken many steps in training to ensure that your baby will be safe throughout the session. Many of the images you see on the website are composites of multiple exposures so that someone has a hand on the baby at all times during the creation of the image. Please be aware, that many new photographers are not aware of the dangers associated with creating specialized images. Even if you do not choose to book with us, be sure to ask about the safety qualifications and practices of your chosen newborn photographer. Regardless of who you choose, we want you to have a safe experience.

Why Birth Photography?

There is so much adrenaline pumping on the day of your birth, regardless of how great your birth experience plays out, there will be lots of details that you don't remember. This is why birth photography can be so healing. You will be able to look back on the events of your big day and piece together many fuzzy memories. Also, there are many details that a birth photographer can capture from an outside perspective that you may never have seen such as your family's excitement in the waiting room, your husband putting on his scrubs preparing to join you in the OR, or the baby's first bath or measurements should they happen away from your gaze. Don't miss a single moment of your big day.

Birth Photography FAQ

Why would I want my birth photographed? Isn't that kind of gross?

The day of your birth is full of adrenaline and it is often hard to remember the details of who came to visit and what your partner looked like while meeting your child for the first time. Having a birth photographer in place means that your partner does not have to worry about fumbling with a camera and can completely focus on you and your well being.

Many birth clients have also found a healing when looking back on the images of their birth, an ability to make sense of some partial memories.

A birth photographer is not a medical photographer, rather a storyteller of your baby's first day.

What if I have a C-Section?

Each birth is different, however, if your C-Section is not an emergency, it is possible that I will be able to be present in the operating room. We visit this on a case by case basis.

How do you know when to come to my birth?

In your consultation, we will go over all of the details about how I handle on-call time, partner notifications, and backup plan strategies. We have photographed over 30 births in the Bryan/College Station area in the past 5 years and have gotten very familiar with the procedures at each facility.
